Gwen M. MacKenzie, RN, MN, MHSA, was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Sarasota Memorial in May 2005, following the retirement of former CEO G. Duncan Finlay, MD. Gwen came to Sarasota Memorial from Detroit, Michigan, where she previously served as executive Vice President President and chief operating officer of The Detroit Medical Center (DMC), a nonprofit academic health system made up of nine hospitals, two nursing centers and more than 100 outpatient facilities.
A former advanced practice nurse who worked her way up to a number of leadership positions, including President of several DMC hospitals and interim CEO of the health system, MacKenzie brings more than 25 years of health care and management experience to Sarasota Memorial’s top post. She earned a master’s degree in health service administration from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles.
